Nancy J. Benson

Nancy J. Benson, 87, passed away in her sleep on Sept. 14, 2021, at Life Care Center in Post Falls, Idaho. She was born in Port Edwards to Orin and Blanche (James) Paulson in 1934. She was the youngest of two children. She lived and went to school in Port Edwards, then married and had three children before moving to accommodate her husband’s job. Her first husband, William “Bill” Allworden, was from the same area and they married in September 1955. Their three children are Kay, Mark and William “Billy.” She worked at the Nekoosa Edwards Company as did most from that town. She worked in bookkeeping and secretarial work most of her life. She was also active in the church and music. She sang, played the organ, piano, and had a love for cats. When Bill took a job with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, they began moving every few year,s and she could always find work as a bookkeeper and secretary. She and Bill were divorced in 1976, where Nancy decided to move to Oconto Falls to work for Scott Paper Company. While here, she met Ken Benson, who worked there as well, and the two were married in October 1978. When Ken retired, they moved to the Kelly Lake area where they lived for quite awhile. When Ken passed, Nancy moved to the Mountain area but while still being an active role in her and Ken’s church of Trinity where she continued to play the organ for many years. In July 2019, Nancy moved to north Idaho to be closer to her daughter and her family. She loved the mountains and seeing them everyday really pleased her. She loved music, reading, knitting and in her youngish years camping. Her grandchildren could always count on Grandma to be a great adversary on the bumper cars at Bay Beach as well. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, a nephew, her first husband after divorce William and second husband Ken, a step-son, a step-granddaughter and a step-grandson. She is survived by her daughter, Kay (Loyle) Peterson; her sons, Mark Allworden and William Allworden (Erin McGuire); stepdaughter, Jacki Haney; a niece; granddaughters and grandson as well as step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her cat, Sabyl, who now lives with Kay and Loyle. Service and internment will be at 11 a.m. June 16, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8538 Trinity Church Road, Suring.
