James A. Mueller

James “Jim” A. Mueller, 81, of Clintonville, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 28, 2022, at Aster Assisted Living, Clintonville. James “Jim” Arthur Mueller was born May 15, 1940, in Greenville, son to the late Roger and Almira (Thiele) Mueller. After graduating from Seymour High School with the class of 1958, Jim worked on the farm with his dad and assembled tractors with Kuehne Implement. He then served his country by joining the United States Air Force in 1960. He was first stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii; from there he would travel to Vietnam during the war to bring supplies and set up military bases. He was united in marriage to Alice Robley on Nov. 30, 1963, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Navarino. Later, Jim was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas; this was during the Cuban missile crisis. After his honorable discharge in 1964, Jim returned to the area and worked for FWD Segrave as a draftsman and started a family, later working as a draftsman at Paper Converting, Green Bay. In the 1970s, Jim and Alice managed Imago Dei Village Church Camp, near Cloverleaf Lakes, and other Crossways Camp Ministries. He finally worked in sales at K&K Equipment, later known as Caroline Implement, for 27 years retiring in 2005. Jim helped his brother-in-law run and maintain the Navarino Ski Hill, which he did for many years after his retirement, making snow and grooming the slopes. As a longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Jim served as president multiple times, taught Sunday school, confirmation, bible study, and served as a lay minister. He had a very strong faith, and that faith also took him and Alice to Latvia for a time to start mission work. He took pride in maintaining “Big Jim’s Buck Farm” as the family lovingly called his property; many trees were planted as well as food plots. He was a bit of a hunter, but really loved to watch the wildlife on his land. He also served on the board as treasurer with the Shawano County Fairgrounds for many years. Jim will be remembered for his way of not getting flustered when things didn’t go quite right, and for his kind-hearted, hard-working way he approached life and interacted with people. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice; sons, Mark (Corina) Mueller, Omaha, Nebraska, and Paul (Jessie) Mueller Oconomowoc; grandchildren, Amanda (Jacob) Korth, Emily (Mike) Houdek, Caleb Mueller, Dylan Mueller, Ryan Mueller, Lydia Mueller, Isaac Mueller, and Genevieve Mueller; great-grandchildren, Erik and Layla Houdek and Crew Korth; sister, Judy Miller, Seymour; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Delores Kaphingst and Betty Jentz. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Town of Navarino, with pastors Mark and Marcia Sabin officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the church by VFW Post 664, American Legion Post 63, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63, and VFW Auxiliary Unit 664, all of Clintonville. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church until the time of service.
