Fabian Holewinski, 85, passed away peacefully May 13, 2025, at Aurora Baycare Medical Center in Green Bay, surrounded by his loving family. The son of Antone and Anna (Brusky) Holewinski was born in Maple Grove on Feb. 21, 1940.
Fabian was a lifelong resident of Hofa Park, where he married the love of his life, Cynthia Dziubla, and they were happily married for 60 years. Here they raised a loving family, fostered his passion for outstanding cows and his love of the land. His most favorite outside seasonal job was planting corn on his farm. He loved preparing and showing his prized Holstein dairy cattle at local shows and at the Shawano County Fair. He was the first person in Shawano County to milk cows three times daily, a true picture of his outstanding work ethic, which he passed on to all his children.
Fabian served in the U.S. Army, where he perfected his tuba playing skills. He later went on to play in several local polka bands, often playing for residents of local nursing homes. In addition, he was a member of the Pulaski Community Band for several years.
When he wasn’t spending time on his farm, he could be found attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and showing events. He was an avid sports fan, with a fondness for the Green Bay Packers.
He especially loved playing sheepshead and cribbage, and could count cards like the best Vegas superstar. He looked forward to family gatherings, where he cherished time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Furthermore, Fabian was a tree expert and could identify all different types of trees.
Anyone who met Fabian loved him. He was unassuming, approachable and humble. We invite all of you to live each day to the fullest, and live by his famous motto: “It’s a wonderful day to be alive.”
Fabian is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Dziubla) Holewinski; six children, John (Beth) Holewinski, Annette (Peter) Lenss, Christine (Martin) Jacobson, Pamela (Ryan) Liebergen, Jeannine (Erik) Rasmussen and Garrett (Kelly) Holewinski; grandchildren, Gavin Zernicke, Alexis Retzlaff, Brianna Boyer, Vincent and Luke Liebergen, Mason and Lydia Rasmussen, Griffin, Jackson, Grant, Jionna and Jade Holewinski; great-grandchildren, Braxton Dunnick, Olivia and Greyson Boyer, Adeline, Theodore and Ainsley Retzlaff; five brothers, Arlyn (Judy) Holewinski, Richard (Sue) Holewinski, William (Mary) Holewinski, Dennis Holewinski and Marvin (Marsha) Holewinski; brother-in-law, Don Smith; godchildren, Dillon Holewinski and Christopher Schultz.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Marie; his parents, Antone and Anna Holewinski; one sister, Melanie Smith; and one sister-in-law, Susan Holewinski.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, May 20 at St. Stanislaus Church, Hofa Park. Interment with military honors rendered by the Pulaski Area Veterans followed in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to thank Aurora Baycare Medical Center for the care and compassion they extended to Fabian during his brief stay.
