The Gillett Area Chamber of Commerce will join residents, businesses and visitors in a special community celebration as the community officially marks the completion of a highway improvement project and the opening of a new playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The event will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Zippel Park, 150 N. McKenzie St., Gillett.
The event will celebrate the completion of the year-long project to upgrade state Highway 22 in the city of Gillett. It will also celebrate the new playground at Zippel, where equipment that was over 70 years old was replaced to the tune of $1 million — paid for through a Community Development Block Grant.
The event will feature music, food, guest speakers, a Cub Scout flag presentation, kids’ activities, a historical display highlighting changes in the area and the unveiling of a new banner display. The program will recognize the partnerships, dedication and vision that helped bring these projects to life.
“This celebration is about more than cutting a ribbon,” said Christopher Byars, chamber president. “It is an opportunity to recognize the progress we’ve made together and the investments that will benefit residents, businesses and families for years to come.”
The improved highway supports safer travel and stronger connections throughout the area, while the new playground provides a welcoming space for children and families to gather, play and create lasting memories. Together, these projects reflect the community’s commitment to growth, accessibility and a bright future.
“We are excited to bring the community together to celebrate these accomplishments,” said Byars. “This event honors both where we have been and where we are headed as a community.”
