Fairest of the Fair deadline nears

Entry forms are due Feb. 1 for individuals interested in competing for the title of 2014 Oconto County Senior and Junior Fairest of the Fair. The contest will be held March 1 at Oconto Falls High School. Contestants are required to submit an entry form, sponsorship and essay by Feb. 1. For the first time, the Senior and Junior Fairest of the Fair contest will be combined. Previously, the Junior Fairest of the Fair was chosen in August at the county fair, and the Fairest of the Fair was chosen in the spring at a banquet. To be eligible for Oconto County Senior Fairest of the Fair, a contestant must be 18 years old by Jan. 1, 2015, and a resident of Oconto County. To be eligible for Oconto County Junior Fairest of the Fair, a contestant must be 11-13 years old as of Aug. 24, 2013 (the day the contest would have been held during the fair), or 11-13 years old as of March 1, 2014. The contest is open to Oconto County residents who are Oconto County Fair exhibitors. The Senior and Junior Fairest of the Fair work together to promote the Oconto County Fair by attending various community events. The Fairest of the Fair experience allows individuals to develop public speaking, interviewing and marketing skills.
