Douglas ‘Doug’ Edward Prickette

“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” — 2 Cor. 5:1 Doug Prickette, a lifelong resident of Shawano, realized his dream on Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013, by returning to our Heavenly Father. He was born on April 3, 1941, in Appleton to the late Walter (Bud) and Anne (Thurner) Prickette. Doug enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. Doug enjoyed 14 years of retirement after 38 years of employment at the Shawano Paper Mill. He spent many hours meditating on the word of the Lord. He was led to AA by God and because of their deep understanding, compassion and desire to share love and knowledge, he became the tree that bears the fruit of which God intended. Doug enjoyed many outdoor passions with his family and friends: duck calling, deer and turkey hunting, and fishing. He deeply loved and is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Thoreson); four children, Alica (Edward) Blas, of Phoenix, Ariz., Annette (Joseph) Wendorff, of Lone Tree, Colo., Anthony (Brenda), of Victoria, Minn., and Andrew (Anne) of Mound, Minn; seven grandchildren, Sarita, Nicholas, Tanji, Tom, Jonathan, Vincent, Mitchell; five great-grandchildren; his siblings, Roger, Tom, Sandy, Lana, Jeff and their families; half-siblings, Barbara and Walter and their families; and his dog, Hannah. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Shawano American Legion Post 117. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
