Sex offender registry violation A Shawano man charged with felony bail jumping after he was busted for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia earlier this month also stands accused of violating the requirements of the state Sex Offender Registry. Nicholas R. Blais, 27, is facing two felony counts alleging he failed to notify the Sex Offender Registry of a change of address and provided the state with false information. Each of the counts carries a maximum possible penalty of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Blais was arrested in Shawano on Aug. 7 after police responded to a tip that he might be “doing drugs.” He was charged with felony bail jumping and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Blais pleaded no contest to the bail jumping charge on Aug. 12 and was sentenced to six months in jail as a condition of two years probation. The misdemeanor charge was dropped under the plea agreement. According to the new criminal complaint filed last week, Blais’ residence in the city of Shawano was different than the town of Wescott address listed in the state Sex Offender Registry. Blais was convicted in Michigan in 2003 of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to court records. He was required to register as a sex offender in Wisconsin after moving here in 2009. Blais is due in Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court for an adjourned initial appearance on the Sex Offender Registry violation charges on Sept. 3. A $1,000 signature bond was set after a hearing Monday. Felony OWI A Wittenberg man is facing a felony count of operating while intoxicated after sheriff’s deputies pulled him over on his motorcycle Friday. Jonathon J. Goetsch, 40, could face a maximum six years in prison and $10,00 fine if convicted of fifth-offense OWI. He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of operating after revocation. Deputies pulled him over on County Road Q in Wittenberg after they spotted him on a motorcycle without a working tail light, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint alleges a preliminary breath test showed he had an alcohol level of .131 percent. According to the criminal complaint, Goetsch has three previous OWI convictions in Marathon County and one in Dane County. A $2,500 cash bond was set by Judge James Habeck after an initial court appearance Monday. Goetsch is due back in court for an adjourned initial appearance Sept. 3.
