The Shawano Plan Commission signed off on several items Oct. 29 to help St. Gambrinus Properties, LLC, which operates Stubborn Brothers Brewery, move forward on expansion efforts.
A newly consolidated lot by the brewery on South Main Street is being used for an AirBNB for wedding guests utilizing the ballroom. A large shed in the southeast corner will be utilized for the manufacturing, packing and storing of Stubborn Brothers products.
“Any property that has multiple principal structures like this would be considered a group development rather than a single use,” said David Moesch, zoning administrator. “What they’re doing here is expanding that storage. So what they need to do is combine all of these.”
Expansion is necessary to fill orders, so St. Gambrinus is looking at adding on to the building for more cold storage and a 220-square-foot room for a grain room. To do this, the company must get a 4-foot strip of land from the city.
The commission approved a certified survey map and a conditional use permit to make all these things possible.
“Right now, we’re cleaning some things up,” said Eddie Sheppard, city administrator.
Commission member Terry Hilgenberg expressed some concern about the consolidation and whether it might hamper any efforts to split the lot in the future, but city staff assured that there would be no hindrance.
