Catherine A. Dalum

Catherine A. Dalum, 86, of Shawano, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in Shawano. Born on April 19, 1927, in Shawano, she was the daughter and 12th child born at home to the late Elmer and Lela (Meverden) Owen. On Nov. 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Carl L. Dalum. After marriage the couple owned and operated a dairy farm in Illinois until moving back to Wisconsin in 1960. Upon returning, the couple farmed in Manawa until 1968, when they moved to a farm in the town of Belle Plaine. The couple also owned and operated Chef’s Inn in Shawano (now known as The Home Plate) for five years beginning in 1968. Catherine was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. In her free time she loved playing bingo with her sisters. She also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, crocheting, listening to music, especially polka music, and dancing. Catherine is survived by three daughters, Priscilla (Eugene Sr.) King, of Shawano, Paulette “Polly” (Kenneth) Bartz, of Shawano, Dorothy Siebert, of Long Lake; a son, Emil (Carolyn) Dalum, of Shawano; three grandchildren, Carl King, Marvin (Sharin) Bartz, Myron Bartz; five stepgrandchildren, Kaso and Mathew Weso, Eugene King Jr., Christopher King, Tina (nee King) Edwards; four great-grandchildren, Katherine, Caroline, William and Victoria Bartz; and two great-stepgrandchildren, Elan and Awan Weso. Catherine is further survived by a brother, Delbert (Norma) Owen, of Clintonville; four sisters, Veronica Lewis, of Shawano, Mildred Antos, of Embarrass, Neomi (Ronald) Yokes, of Grafton, Mary Rizzo, of Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Owen, of Shawano. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, on Dec. 29, 2012; a son, Joseph; a stepgrandson, Timothy Weso; her parents; 11 siblings, Evelyn (John) Heinrich, Lester (Lillian) Owen, Roger Owen, Harland (Jesse) Owen, Aloysius (Lorraine) Owen, Russell (Buelah) Owen, Wilfred Owen, Susan (Anthony) Buro, Cread (Priscilla) Owen, Milton (Kathleen) Owen, Harriet (Mike) Dillon; and two brothers-in-law, Tom Antos and Victor Rizzo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
