As Shawano County officials continue to hammer out a new job description for an administrative coordinator, one supervisor tossed out another suggestion as the county board meeting came to an end Dec. 17.
Supervisor Joe Miller said he understood the committee is leaning toward having the new coordinator acting in a liaison position among department heads, elected officials and county committees. Department heads would answer to their home committee and not the administrative coordinator, as was the case under the previous coordinator.
“Whoever this person is going to be a dog without teeth, all bark and no bite,” Miller said. “This person needs to have some authority.”
He suggested a three-prong approach to county leadership.
“Finance, human resources and whoever the next county coordinator is — those three individuals who basically are in charge of this entire government — those three could be on a parallel level,” Miller said. “Instead of everything going to one person, I think you have a little more balanced approach on that.”
Members of the county’s executive committee continue to work with Julie Hasser, interim administrative coordinator and human resources director, in revamping the job description.
All financial and human resources duties that had been part of the job description will be eliminated from the role and handled by the finance and human resources departments, respectively. In some cases, those departments had been doing the work already.
