OWI-injury Felony drunken driving charges were filed Tuesday against a Mattoon man in connection with a two-vehicle accident in July that injured four people. Octaviano Enriquez-Genis, 30, is accused of being intoxicated when he rear-ended another vehicle on County Road D in the town of Almon on July 6. County eyes utility infrastructure policy
Shawano County officials will be working on a policy regulating utility infrastructure located near town, county and state roads. Senior citizens, friends of the fair honored
Dedicated senior citizens, friends of the fair and two outstanding family farms were recognized Sunday at the Shawano County Fair Awards Program. Dedicated Senior Citizens honored this year were Richard Kuepper, Lois Anderson and Sandy Wendorff. Kuepper was nominated by the Shawano Rotary, of which he has been a member for 41 years.

Caroline H. Rohde, 85, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, Sept. 3, 2013, at the Shawano Medical Center. Funeral service arrangements are pending and will be announced later. Sandra D. Schultz
Sandra D. “Sandy” (Berndt) Schultz, 74, Green Bay, passed away Sept. 1, 2013, surrounded by her family. She fought a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Born in Clintonville on April 4, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Sophie (Seehafer) Berndt. Sandy took great pride in her ability to connect with people and make them smile. She loved the Green Bay area and spent many years working at various retail stores and local taverns.

Eugene Henry “Corkie” Salzman, 85, passed into eternal life on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013. Loving father of Renee King, Gene (Jane), Joel (Stacy), Paul (Bonnie) and Pamela (Charles) Bergen. Cherished papa/grandpa/GGPS of 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Baby brother of Evelyn Herms and Dorothy Hottenstine. Preceded in death by his wives, Leona and Donna, and son, Jeffrey.
Michael R. Abler
Michael R. Abler, 53, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at his home. He was born on March 6, 1960, in Sheboygan, the son of the late Arthur Abler and Martina (Halbach) Abler, Wittenberg. On Feb. 17, 1979, Mike was united in marriage to Wanda Brenecke in Chilton. She survives. Mike and Wanda owned and operated Northwoods Sporting and Nursery in Birnamwood. Mike loved to work on cars and race cars, to hunt and to spend time with his friends.
Gresham looking for right strategy
Last season the Gresham Community High School volleyball team’s offense went through Darci Huntington. The graduated senior was a second-team all-Central Wisconsin Conference-10 selection, the only Gresham player to get all-conference recognition last year. This year coach Tim Wild is looking for someone to replace Huntington in his 5-1 offense. “She was on the court, basically, the whole time,” Wild said.

Bears win own volleyball invite The Bonduel High School volleyball team went 9-2 in its invitational Tuesday in Bonduel. The Bears went 3-1 against Suring, 3-0 against Lena and 3-1 against Waupaca. Jen Dowden led Bonduel with 42 kills. Taylor Weier added 25. Courtney and Miranda Schmidt both had 32 assists. Shawano dominates Antigo in soccer The Shawano Community High School boys soccer team beat Antigo 12-0 Tuesday in Shawano.
