Craig, 40, Oconto, pleaded no contest May 20 to attempted battery to certain individuals involved with a court or legal system and a misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing an officer. Judge Jay Conley imposed and stayed a prison sentence July 20, then placed him on two years of probation with conditions.

Deputies responded to 52 incidents, including operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at Shawano Lake; suspicious activity on South Sawyer Street in Shawano; six 911 calls; 17 traffic stops; three reckless driving incidents; three traffic hazards; one deer-related crash.

The Bonduel Broncos are still in the mix for a Dairyland League championship.

Bonduel hosted Pulaski on July 26 and picked up a 7-4 win over the Reds to improve to 12-2 in league play.

Jett Thielke held the Reds hitless over seven innings while striking out 16 batters. Jack Reinke and Noah Weier each pitched an inning of relief and gave up two runs.

Eland and Hatley’s BABA baseball teams put up some big numbers under the lights July 24 in their North Division matchup in Eland.

The Engineers scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to hand the Braves a 22-7 loss in a game that included 33 hits and 29 runs.

Shawano’s AJ Springborn moved up from a 10th-place start to capture the checkered flag in the 20-lap IMCA sport modifieds feature race at the Shawano Speedway on July 25.

Oconto Falls’ Cole Magnin started eighth and finished second, while Seymour Tim Jorgensen started 11th and placed third.

Gillett’s Brad Miller started on the pole and finished in four place.

Miller and Magnin won the heat races.

A dog found with multiple bullet wounds and other injuries is making a slow but steady move toward a happy ending but is not out of the woods yet, while the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating who might have caused him harm.

About to celebrate its 48th year, the Shawano Folk Music Festival is set to return to the Mielke Park and the Mielke Arts Center on Aug. 7-9.

Steve Pollock is the new representative for District 27 on the Shawano County Board, following a contentious nomination process at the July 22 meeting.

Pollock, a retired We Energies employee, was nominated by Chairman Tom Kautza and approved by the board with 19 in favor, five against, one abstention and one member absent.

Exchanging traditions and gaining knowledge of other cultures has been a tradition between several Native American tribes in Wisconsin and a group of Koreans based in Silver Spring, Maryland, and the latest exchange took place over three days before culminating in a public showcase July 23 at the Omaeqnomenewak Wetohkatikamek Center in Keshena.
