Shawano Area Matthew 25, Inc. is once again bringing color and community spirit to Shawano with its annual spring flower sale fundraiser, open now through April 30. Orders must be received by 3 p.m. April 30 to be included in this year’s sale.

Flowers will be available for pickup May 21, from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the parking lot on East Elizabeth Street in Shawano, across from the Little League diamonds.

Hadlynn Kast volunteered to gavel the March 25 meeting of the Shawano County Board to order. Each spring when the board acknowledges the winners of the county conservation poster contest, Chairman Tom Kautza asks for a youth volunteer to bang the gavel to begin the meeting.

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood Cub Scout Pack 445 will join troops from across the nation for the annual Scouting for Food event April 18.

Local troops and packs collect nonperishable food items for local food pantries.

Pack 445 will collect food for the Wittenberg Food Pantry in front of the local grocery store, Wittenberg Sentry, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

High school graduations are coming up soon, and organizers of the chemical-free graduation party at Shawano Community High School are busy planning for the 38th annual event.

Matthew Raduechel, high school principal, recently sent a letter to area businesses asking for assistance.

UW-Whitewater

Kyle Bowman, a finance major at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from Oconto, is one of 20 students recognized at the Pi Sigma Epsilon 2026 National Convention from March 25-27 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Bowman earned the following awards during the convention: finalist, Interview Competition; semifinalist, Pro-Am Sell-A-Thon National Competition; Top 10, Pro-Am Sell-A-Thon Year-Long Competition.

Matty Mathison, center, of Shawano, was presented with AARP Wisconsin’s top statewide volunteer award for 2025 in a ceremony March 31 at the Shawano Lake County Park pavilion. Mathison is a dedicated advocate for the creation, preservation and expansion of trail systems throughout Shawano County.

Trust and transparency are gone in Oconto County.

Will anglers head to the northern half of Wisconsin – including Shawano and Oconto counties – to fish for muskies almost a month before the previous season opener?

That remains to be seen, but anglers will be able to target muskies in the Northern Zone on May 2 instead of waiting until the last Saturday of May. The season will end Dec. 31.
