Wisconsin had 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending June 21, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Some cutting of hay was delayed by mid-week rains, especially in the northern portion of the state. Areas in the southeast were still hoping for more precipitation.
Corn emergence was 97% complete compared to the 5-year average of 94%. Corn condition was 81% good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week. Soybean emergence was 95% complete compared to the average of 93%. Soybean condition was 79% good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
Oats were 51% headed compared to the average of 47% and had begun coloring. Oat condition was rated 82% good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week. Winter wheat fields were 92% headed compared to the average of 90%. Winter wheat was 23% coloring. Winter wheat condition was 79% good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
The first cutting of alfalfa hay was 93% complete compared to the average of 90%. The second cutting of alfalfa hay was 11% complete. All hay condition was 76% good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
Pasture and range condition was 66% good to excellent, down 1 percentage point from last week.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 2% very short, 8% short, 79% adequate and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 2% very short, 14% short, 74% adequate and 10% surplus.
