New fees for the new aspects of the Shawano Recreation Center, currently under renovation, passed the first glance Feb. 18 from the Shawano Park and Recreation Commission.

Existing fees are expected to remain the same for now, according to Matt Hendricks, park and recreation director, but those fees were passed three years ago and are expected to be reviewed at the end of 2026.

Former Shawano County employee Lori Gagner was recently recognized for her three decades of service.

She worked for 30 years with the county, first as the assistant real property lister in the planning and development department and most recently within the technology services department.

A resolution to thank her was approved Feb. 19 by the executive committee. The county board is expected to approved the resolution Feb. 25.

Gillett School Board incumbent Nanette Mohr came up short among five candidates on the Feb. 17 primary election ballot and will see her time on the board come to an end.

Advancing to the April 7 general election are incumbent Jamie J. Heroux and challengers Nicole Blaskowski, Ben Korth and Elizabeth Telford.

They will compete for two seats on the board, each with a three-year term that will begin April 20.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Wisconsin state director Andrew C. Iverson has announced that it is providing the city of Gillett with a $994,000 loan for sewer system upgrades.

“This investment toward a dependable sewer system in the city of Gillett will improve the lives of families and businesses in the community by improving the sanitation system while keeping utilities rates affordable,” said Iverson.

The Shawano County Veterans Service Office will soon have a new home.

Members of the public property committee agreed Feb. 12 to move that office from the county courthouse on South Main Street to the Department of Human Services campus at W7327 Anderson Ave.

Julie Hasser, interim administrative coordinator, said the relocation is part of a trickle-down move.
