Cash, clothes, household items and more are still being sought to help the three families displaced by the Aug. 16 fire at The Crossroads Bar and Grill at 300 Cedar St., Tigerton.

Items can be dropped off at the Main Street Diner in Tigerton. The Tigerton ambulance garage will accept donations in the evening hours.

The Olde Dime Store in Wittenberg will also assist the families in need.

Getting to the shops in downtown Shawano is fairly easy for most people, but there are concerns that the disabled and elderly might not be able to access stores like most others can.

A bipartisan group of state lawmakers is trying to bring immunity protections to 911 dispatchers.

A bill proposed in June would provide immunity protections for 911 call centers or dispatchers when they transfer calls to the suicide hotline.

A roaring fire destroyed one business and left three families without a home in Tigerton the night of Aug. 16.

Tigerton firefighters were dispatched to The Crossroads Bar and Grill at 300 Cedar St. at about 6:31 p.m.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke in the attic area. All individuals were safely evacuated prior to the department’s arrival, and no injuries were reported.

Rubenzer grew up in Shawano and graduated from Shawano Community High School. Less than a month ago, she returned home as the director at the Shawano County Library system.
