Members of the Shawano County Ethics Committee met in closed session to discuss a case against one of their own members but have yet to announce their decision.

A Nov. 11 meeting to deliberate over the testimony given at a Nov. 4 quasi-judicial hearing has no published minutes, according to the county’s website.

County Board Chairman Tom Kautza told members of the executive committee Nov. 12 a statement was expected within days, but nothing has been made public yet.

“The ethics committee met yesterday, and they come to a solution of what they think should be done with one of their current cases that they have,” he said. “They’ll be putting out a formal statement the end of the week or early next week.”

Jim Davel, former county administrative coordinator, accused Hammett of violating the ethics code.

He said Hammett placed his Supervisor District 16 information on his private business card, creating a potential for financial gain due to his elected position.

Earlier this summer, at an open session of the county board, Hammett asked about an alleged missing $1 million from the county treasury. Davel said that statement was an ethics code violation.

Finally, Hammett is accused of providing confidential personnel information to unauthorized board members, the media and the public.
