New North gets new leader Dec. 1

Patti Habeck has been named president and CEO of New North Inc., the regional economic development corporation for the 18 counties of Northeast Wisconsin, effective Dec. 1.

A unanimous selection of the New North board of directors, she leads the largest hunger-relief organization in the state, one which has experienced transformational growth strategically, financially and in culture over her tenure.

Cruisers Yachts unveils VTR fleet

Cruisers Yachts is launching its newest fleet, the VTR. Designed and built in Oconto, the VTR line combines rugged capability and yacht-level craftsmanship.

The fleet debuts with two models: the 38 VTR, featuring an open cockpit, and the 38 VTR EC, which boasts an enclosed cockpit with climate control for all-weather boating. Both are powered by Mercury Verado outboards, with twin 300hp or 400hp engines.

Cabra Mama’s raises the food it sells in farm store

Cabra Mama’s Homestead, located at W4977 County Road BE in the Town of Waukechon, offers an all-natural, farm-to-table service to their customers.

Owners David and Whitney Altenhofen maintain a small-scale farming operation, raising goats, beef cattle, pigs, rabbits and chickens on their 8-acre homestead.

Gruetzmacher Funeral Home holds open house in Gillett

Under new management by Brent Gruetzmacher, the property at 108 E. Main St. in Gillett hosted an open house Sept. 4.

The former Kuehl Funeral Home received a facelift, with interior and exterior renovations beginning almost immediately after the transition of ownership, which took place last December.

18-year-old entrepreneur rolling in dough with baked goods

Aspen Brunner was just 16 years old when she started a sourdough baking business.

When you’re 16 and home-schooled, some of your time is flexible, Brunner said. She used that flexibility to start her home-based micro bakery, The Rustic Oven. She started baking sourdough bread in her mother’s kitchen in Cecil, using her great-grandmother’s Hoosier cabinet.

Wisco Meats opens retail store in Stiles

A store specializing in hand-crafted beef jerky, homemade sausage and hand-cut steaks has opened in the Town of Stiles.

Wisco Meats opened a retail store in the plaza next to the A&W restaurant in Stiles, 5068 U.S. Highway 141, offering a wide selection of premium meats, homemade sausage and beef jerky. The store is an offshoot of the Wisco Meats’ jerky-making shop and wild game processing facility in Coleman.
