Backes Food Mart in Birnamwood will open the 15th Village Post Office (VPO) in the state on Tuesday. The new postal center will be officially opened by brothers Dan and Dave Backes and Lori Rogney, area post office operations manager. The grand opening will be held at 1 p.m.

Airport Commission plans legal offensive
Airport officials are strapping themselves in for a full-throttle response to a harassment claim filed last week against the airport’s manager. Glenn Lee “Chief” Davids Sr., 84, of Bowler, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Ella Besaw Center, Bowler. Born on April 9, 1929, in Gresham, he was the son of the late Elmer and Eureka (Jourdan) Davids. On Nov. 13, 1946, Glenn enlisted with the United States Navy and served his country for four years.
