The Shawano 11U baseball team finished third in the youth baseball tournament last weekend at Memorial Park in Shawano. Shawano beat the Green Bay Sluggers 12-6 in the third-place game. Manitowoc took first place in the tournament. Peshtigo finished in second place. In the 12U tournament, Shawano advanced out of pool play but did not place. Bonduel was eliminated in pool play. First place in the 12U tournament went to the De Pere River Bandits.

Paul Parker made it two in a row by outdueling Ron Berna in the Late Model feature at Shawano Speedway on Saturday night. Brandon Czarapata once again won the IMCA Stock Car feature. He has won all but one of the feature events at the Speedway in 2013.

Pulaski 4, Bonduel 3 Nick Dagnu scored on an error in the seventh inning to help the Reds beat the Broncos to open the Lobos Tournament. Tyler Wichman earned the win, throwing seven innings, striking out seven, walking three and giving up three runs on four hits. Luke Kostreva took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits in seven innings and striking out two and walking one. Dagnu was three for four with a double.

The Shawano American Legion baseball team will open the Class AA Region 2 tournament against regional host Waupaca at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Shawano will then play on Friday against either Berlin or New London, which play their first-round game at 6 p.m. Thursday. Games will be played Friday at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday will feature the championship game at 3 p.m., with a second game at 6 p.m. if needed.

Burglary and felony theft charges have been filed against a couple who authorities say browsed Internet obituaries to find vacant homes to break into in several counties, including Shawano. Seth R. Furgason, 32, of Junction City, and Casandra M.

The reputation of the already popular Shawano Youth League tournaments continues to grow, as players, coaches and fans from around the state enjoy the new and improved concession stand at Memorial Park this summer. “They love the new concession stand and how it’s laid out,” said Gina Bolin, head of concessions for the Shawano Youth League. Revenues from the annual Shawano Youth League tournaments were used to add 13 feet to the existing building,

East-West Division Shawano 10, Menominee 1 Rob Umland was three for four, Brent Verhein was three for five and JJ Slewinski had a triple for Shawano. Menominee’s Shane LaTender was three for four. Melvin Chevalier was two for four. Cody Vigue was two for four. Clint Dallas earned the win on the mound for Shawano.

A circuit court judge on Monday dismissed a Wescott property owner’s harassment claim against the manager of the Shawano City-County Airport. Robert Mueller filed a court petition July 9 seeking a temporary restraining order and/or injunction against Clarence Schampers over a stand of trees Mueller had planted on property outside of the airport fence. Schampers removed the trees in November.
