The passing game wasn’t exactly clicking for the Pulaski football team in its Fox Valley Classic Conference-North opener with De Pere.
The rushing game was a different story, however, as three different running backs combined for all but six of the Red Raiders’ 308 yards on the ground Sept. 5 in a 28-10 win over the Redbirds at Saputo Stadium.
Bohdan Schmidt, Brock Weideman and Anthony Ficarri ran for 127, 100 and 75 yards, respectively, and accounted for all four of Pulaski’s touchdowns.
Weideman’s first of three scoring runs, a 3-yarder with 3:15 to go in the first quarter, broke a scoreless tie.
De Pere answered on its next possession, as Caden Schampers capped a 75-yard drive with a 9-yard run in the opening minute of the second quarter.
The Redbirds took their only lead of the game on their next drive on Mason Bratonia’s 40-yard field goal with 4:17 remaining in the opening half.
Pulaski’s next drive ended with a punt, but the Red Raiders soon had the ball again after Sam Robb bobbled a punt return, fumbled the ball and Gavin Sikorski recovered the loose ball at the De Pere 31-yard line.
Schmidt’s 30-yard run on the first play of the drive gave the Red Raiders a first-and-goal at the 1-yard line and Weideman scored on the next play to give Pulaski a 14-10 with 1:40 remaining in the half.
Pulaski added to its lead with two touchdowns in a six-minute span in the fourth quarter.
Weideman’s 7-yard run gave the Red Raiders a 21-10 lead with 7:14 to go in the game and Ficarri capped the scoring with a 1-yard run with 1:16 left on the clock.
Pulaski only threw the ball four times during the game, with Schmidt completing one pass for 14 yards.
The Red Raiders improved to 1-0 in conference play and 2-1 overall and will host Green Bay Southwest at 7 p.m. Sept. 11.
