After opening the season with a road loss, Pulaski and Bonduel’s football teams are heading into conference play after convincing wins over Hortonville and Coleman, respectively.
Pulaski handed Hortonville a 42-7 loss Aug. 29, while Bonduel defeated Coleman 33-12 Aug. 28.
Pulaski 42, Hortonville 7
The Red Raiders wrapped up their nonconference schedule with a win over the Polar Bears and will head into Fox Valley Classic Conference-North play with a 1-1 record.
Bohdan Schmidt ran for 121 yards and two scores and added a pair of touchdown passes for Pulaski.
He opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 35-yard pass to Trentyn Linz and gave the Red Raiders a three-score lead in the second quarter with an 11-yard pass to Eli Brancefield and a 62-yard run.
Brock Weideman added a 1-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter and the Red Raiders had a 28-0 lead at the break.
Schmidt’s 20-yard run turned out to be the only score of the third quarter, and Anthony Ficarri capped the scoring for Pulaski with a 17-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.
Pulaski’s defense almost recorded a shutout, but AJ Pheifer connected with Jon Englebert for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds remaining in the game.
Schmidt picked up his 121 rushing yards on only nine carries and also completed four of five passes for 84 yards.
Pulaski outgained Hortonville 254-14 on the ground, but the Polar Bears outgained the home team 173-80 through the air.
Bonduel 33, Coleman 12
Quinn Wesenberg completed eight of 10 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Bears over the Cougars.
Bonduel also had a pair of 100-yard rushers, as Malachi Gray and Carter Moesch finished with 124 and 117 yards, respectively.
Tomahawk 28, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 22 (OT)
The Chargers headed to Tomahawk Aug. 29 for their annual nonconference matchup with the Hatchets but came up short in overtime.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood opened the game with a pair of touchdowns to take a 13-0 lead into the second quarter, but the Hatchets responded with three unanswered touchdowns to go up 22-13.
The Chargers eventually tied the game at 22-22 in the fourth quarter and had a chance to take the lead, but Tomahawk’s Michael Samundsen blocked the extra point attempt, his second of the game.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood turned the ball over on downs on its first possession in overtime before the Hatchets sealed the win with Cash Olsen’s 1-yard quarterback sneak.
Tomahawk’s defense held the Chargers to 73 rushing yards.
Lena/STAA 24, Algoma 0
The Titans recorded their second straight shutout Aug. 29 with a win over the Wolves in Lena.
Algoma had handed Lena/STAA a 22-20 loss last year.
Lena/STAA, which played for a 8-player state championship last season, is now 2-0 and has outscored its opponents 77-0.
Suring 44, Green Bay NEW Lutheran 24
Suring improved to 2-0 on the season Aug. 28 with an 8-player win over the Blazers.
The Eagles took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter before NEW Lutheran scored twice to cut the Eagles’ lead to 20-12 at halftime.
Suring outscored the visitors 18-6 in the third quarter before each team found the end zone once in the final period.
Sevastopol 50, Gillett 0
Logan Schuh had 217 passing yards and 184 yards on the ground for Sevastopol Aug. 29 in an 8-player win over the Tigers in Gillett.
