Double homicide trial under way

An Oconto County jury will decide if a rural Shawano man, desperate to save his marriage and anxious over repaying a loan with marijuana he grew illegally, murdered his ex-mistress and her brother. Richard F. Grosskopf
Richard F. “Dick” Grosskopf, 86, a 47-year resident of Wadsworth, Ill., was born April 6, 1927 in Pella to the late Milton and Sylvia Grosskopf and passed away Oct. 10, 2013, at the Alliance Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie surrounded by his wife and family. Dick was the beloved husband of Mary E. (nee Carlson), whom he met in Janesville. They were married in 1954 and celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Jock Penn
Jock Penn, 71, died at home in Shawano on Oct. 2, 2013. Jock graduated from Shawano High School in 1960, went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for one year and then joined the U.S. Army, where he worked in Army intelligence. He later received his bachelor of arts in journalism from San Francisco State University in 1973 and his law degree from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, Calif., in 1980.

Top Clintonville fire officials resign

Court ruling muddles civil suits prompted by homicide
Two civil suits seeking damages against the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department following the murder of a Wittenberg man last year were complicated this week by a court ruling allowing the convicted murderer to also be named as a defendant. Joshua P. Johnson, 23, was committed in December to life in a mental institution for killing his father, Donald P. Johnson, 53, at their Wittenberg home on Feb. 21, 2012.
