County Board delays sheriff's $19K request

A measure to increase the Shawano County sheriff’s budget for unanticipated health insurance costs was referred back to committee Wednesday. Spelling bee winner three-peats

Jeannette M. Ashley
Jeannette M. Ashley, 85, of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, Jan. 20, 2014, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah where she had been a patient for the past week. Jeannette was born May 23, 1928, in Wrightstown, a daughter of the late Frank L. and Vera (Roebke) Huntington. She attended school in Wrightstown. Following school Jeannette worked as a secretary at Standard Oil Company in Green Bay.

Hawks lose to Appleton North
The Shawano Community High School boys basketball team lost a nonconference game against Appleton North 51-44 Tuesday in Appleton. The Hawks outscored North 19-13 in the final period, but the rally fell short. Jack Lacy led Shawano (8-4, 7-0 Bay) with 10 points. Zack Sousek and Dylan Frechette each had seven points.

Schools learning new defense against shooters
While a school shooting has not happened in Shawano, local officials don’t plan to wait for one to happen to take action.
