Arthur “Art” A. Meisner, 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Cecil on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014. Surrounded by family, he relinquished the earthly life fraught with pain to accept his new and everlasting life. Art was born in Green Bay on Sept. 22, 1937, to the late Arthur R. and Emma (nee Beilfuss) Meisner. Art and his parents moved from the town of Lessor to Cecil in 1941.

Nice weather brought people out in droves Saturday to take part in the 36th annual Shawano Folk Music Festival at Mielke Park. In the second year under coach Al Tomow, the Shawano Community High School football program is in a better groove to start the 2014 season. Hired in July 2013, Tomow had to scramble not only to put together a plan for the team, but also to get players adjusted to a new system. This year the players know the coach and the system, and it is showing in early practices. “So far, we’re a lot farther ahead than we were last year,” Tomow said.
