Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s George Seegmiller scored an 85 and placed eighth at 13-team invitational Whistling Straits/Irish Course-Haven in Sheboygan.
“It was neither a great showing nor a poor showing for our first real meet and an early season round,” said Chargers coach Chris Bartletti. “The Irish course is a difficult venue, and it can lead to some high scores. With that said, I thought George had a solid round. I expect him to be a team leader this year and set the pace for the rest of the team. We will definitely need to improve on our scores, but it is very early, and I still think we can be competitive in our conference.”
Menominee Nation/Gresham finished third with 366, followed by Marion in fourth at 370, Wittenberg-Birnamwood in sixth at 382 and Bonduel in seventh at 391.
For the Eagles, it was Gabe Boivin with 86, Kenew Awonohopay with 91, Allex Hahl with 93 and Anikohsoeh Corn with 96.
Ellitt Penass carded at 98.
Marion’s scores were Collin Grogan with 89, Javen Prickette with 90, Elijah Scheef with 93 and James Nolan with 98.
Jarren Faehling carded a 104.
Joining Seegmiller were Carson Klinner with 93, Roman Johnson with 101 and Nicholas Flak with 103.
Grant Hanson carded a 114.
“Roman struggled, and we will need him to play much better if we are going to compete, but I’m confident he will improve significantly,” Bartletti said. “That goes for Nick as well. Carson showed he can post decent scores if he can avoid big scores on hotels. This was only Grant’s third varsity meet, and it was on a difficult course so he should see his scores go down as well.”
Bonduel’s scores included Cameron Schroeder and Griffin Uelmen at 91 each, Tyson Lyons at 102 and Beckett Hartlaben at 108.
Ryan Westrich carded a 122.
