Lena’s Thomson hits 1,000 points

Lena High School senior Madi Thomson reached 1,000 career points in Lena’s 60-13 home victory over Gresham.

Thomson led Lena with 23 points and ended the game with exactly 1,000 points.

Allie Cerveny led Gresham with five points.

Lena led 37-7 at the half in the runaway game and outscored their guests 23-6 after the break.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 63, Mosinee 44

Wittenberg-Birnamwood held a nine-point lead at halftime, made some adjustments and won the second half by another 10 points to earn a 63-44 victory over Mosinee.

“Tonight was a great game against two good Central Wisconsin teams,” coach Nick Mechelke said. “I’m very proud of how the girls played tonight. Our defense was really good, and we made great adjustments at halftime.”

The Chargers led 27-18 at the break and outscored Mosinee 36-26 in the second half.

Rory Salvesen led Witt-Birn with 23 points, while Melaina Granquist added 18 and Brie Ladika scored 11.

Mechelke credited Ladika and Ava Brei on their performances.
