High school girls basketball teams kicked off their 2025-26 season with three area teams earning commanding wins Nov. 18.
Bonduel crushed Sevastopol 71-11, Wittenberg-Birnamwood rolled to an easy 87-31 victory over Peshtigo, and Suring topped Gresham 59-10.
The Chargers led 60-11 after the first half and cruised to the win with a 27-20 second half.
“We played a great team game tonight and saw the floor really well,” Witt-Birn coach Nick Mechelke said. “We had a great balance of scoring led by Melaina Granquist with 30 and Rory Salvesen with 28.”
Harper Rogowski also scored 10 points for the Chargers.
In Suring's win over Gresham, Paige Pommerich led the Eagles with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while Kyler Kempka added 11. Ginger Gerndt also knocked down a trio of 3-pointers to score nine points.
Shawano also won its season opener, but it wasn’t the blowout like the others. The Hawks defeated Medford 51-45.
The Pulaski Red Raiders ended up on the losing end in a 57-51 game against New London.
Olivia Sprangers paced the Red Raiders with 27 points.
The Bulldogs overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to earn the nonconference win. Pulaski led 28-19 at intermission before New London rallied.
