Bonduel’s Weier named MWC player of the week

The Lawrence University volleyball team swept the Midwest Conference player of the week honors two weeks in a row.

First-year player Audrey Weier was named the offensive player of the week, and fellow first-year player Aria Wessel was chosen as defensive player of the week. During the first week of September, Lawrence defeated the 20th-ranked University of Chicago and also picked up victories over Illinois Tech, Marian University and Rockford University. It was the first victory over a ranked opponent by the Vikings since Lawrence knocked off No. 14 UW-Eau Claire in 2009.

Weier, a middle blocker, hit .410 over the five matches and piled up 57 kills. She had a team-high 15 kills in the win over Chicago and picked up 10 kills with a .667 hitting percentage against No. 22 UW-Claire on the same day. Weier, who averaged 3.00 kills per set for the week, picked up 13 kills against Illinois Tech, had 10 against Rockford and nine against Marian.

Weier also posted 18 blocks during the week, including six against Marian.

In the second week of the month, Ally Corrente was chosen as offensive player of the week, and Weier was named defensive player of the week. Corrente and Weier helped Lawrence to a 4-2 record on the week, including road victories against Wheaton College and Central College.

Weier was a force at the net. Weier piled up 16 digs in the six matches for an average of 0.73 per set. Weier picked up five blocks in the victory at Central and added four in the win over Concordia Chicago. Weier also added 14 digs during the week.

Weier collected 52 kills and hit .289 for the week.
