It was a record-breaking year for the 21st annual Bonduel Track and Field golf outing, organizer Greg Strayer said.
The Sept. 13 event drew 84 golfers in 21 teams and raised just over $15,000. The 2024 event raised $11,900.
“We had a goal of 25 teams, but we had a good group of golfers,” Strayer said. “We raised more than $3,000 more than last year, and that’s great.”
He said the increase in funds came mostly from raffles and sponsorships.
“We raised the price of our sponsorships to $100, $250 and $500,” Strayer said. “Quite a few of our supporters went up from $100 to $250, and we had a new sponsor at $500.
“We also 25 bucket raffles and a VIP raffle with a grand prize of a two-day stay at the Schoolhouse Inn in Langlade County. That was valued at $1,350, and it was donated.”
This year’s event was held at Golden Sands Golf Course. The golf outing switches each year between Golden Sands and Shawano Lake Golf Course, and it’s always the second Saturday in September.
“We had a beautiful day,” Strayer said. “Everything ran like clockwork. We were very pleased with everything.”
The 2025 even had a few golfers show up from Pulaski, one with ties to Bonduel.
Strayer said Bonduel Athletics, the nonprofit group that oversees the fundraiser and distribution of funds.
“We get a lot of requests for funds,” Strayer said prior to the golf outing. “We paid for two or three buses for fans when the boys were in the state baseball tournament. We just wrote a check for the football team for new headsets, and we just helped pay for two new speakers for the football field sound system.”
Strayer said he’s impressed with the fan support of Bonduel High School’s sports teams.
“We always have some of the biggest crowds at state tournaments,” he said.
