4 area teams advance to regional finals in volleyball

The Red Raiders shut out Ashwaubenon 3-0 on Oct. 23 to advance to the Division 1 regional championship game at No. 3 seed West De Pere on Oct. 25.

Pulaski, seeded No. 6, beat Ashwaubenon, seeded 11th.

Bonduel 3, Oconto 0

The No. 7 seeded Bears upset No. 2 Oconto 3-0 in the regional semifinal. Bonduel will play No. 3 Peshtigo for the regional title Oct. 25.

Against Oconto, Bonduel won 25-11, 25-23, 25-17.

Oconto Falls 3, Notre Dame 0

The Panthers advanced to the regional finals with a 3-0 win over Notre Dame in the semifinals.

Oconto Falls, seeded third in its sectional, won 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 over No. 6 seed Notre Dame.

The Panthers will play at No. 2 Luxemburg- Casco on Oct. 25.

Suring 3, Wausaukee 0

Suring showed why it was seeded No. 1 in its Division 5 sectional, as the Eagles topped Wausaukee 3-0 in the regional semifinals.

Suring won 25-7, 25-15, 25-13, and will host No. 4 Elcho for the regional title Oct. 25.

Elcho 3, Lena 1

Lena, the No. 5 seed in its Division 5 sectional, lost 3-1 to No. 4 seed Elcho in the regional semifinals Oct. 23.

The Hornets won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-21, before Lena got into the win column with a 25-20 victory in the third set. Elcho won the fourth and deciding set 25-21 to advance to the regional championship match.

The Wildcats ended the season at 5-9.

Almond-Bancroft 3, Marion 0

Marion was shut out 3-0 in Division 5 regional semifinal action.

The No. 3 seed Eagles won 25-19, 25-21, 25-9 to bring an end to the No. 6 seed Mustangs’ season. Marion was 14-11 this year.

Cambria-Friesland 3, Tigerton 1

The No. 5 seed Tigers were defeated 3-1 by No. 4 Cambria-Friesland in the regional semifinals 20-25, 25-20, 16-25 and 15-25.

“The girls worked hard throughout the match, but they couldn’t overcome some great Hilltopper hitting and defense,” coach Holly Meverden said. “On another night, we may have come out on top. That’s how closely matched these two teams were. Even on the final play of the game, Tigerton had four players on the floor trying to keep the ball from touching.”

Aaliyah Lederhaus led the team with 17 digs, followed by Jaelyn Brady with 10, Renata Nordwig with nine, Danika Tiller and Presley Stewart-Rolfs with seven each and Myah Dent with six.

Tiller had 13 assists, and Lederhaus added five.

Stewart-Rolfs led Tigerton with 10 kills. Lederhaus contributed seven, and Lillian Welch had three.

Stewart-Rolfs, Mya Smith and Nordwig each had one block kill.

Lederhaus scored nine service points with one ace. Nordwig had eight points and an ace, while Brady had seven points with one ace. Tiller tallied seven points.

Tigerton ended the season at 13-8.

Green Bay NEW Lutheran 3, Gresham 0

Gresham, seeded in seventh, lost 3-0 to No. 2 seed Green Bay NEW Lutheran in its regional semifinal match.

Set scores were 25-8, 25-18, 25-14.

Niagara 3, Gillett 2

Gillett had the regional semifinal match in its hands, but victory slipped through them as Niagara won the final three sets to advance to the regional finals.

Gillett, seeded sixth, lost 3-2 to No. 3 Niagara in the semifinals.

The Tigers won the first two sets 25-18, 25-22. The Badgers won the next three sets 25-20, 25-20, 15-9.

Amherst 3, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 2

Points, leads and scores went back and forth when the Wittenberg-Birnamwood traveled to Amherst for its Division 3 regional semifinal match.

But, in the end, the No. 4 Falcons topped the No. 5 Chargers 3-2.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood won the first set 25-17. Amherst won the next two sets 26-24, 25-15. The Chargers fought back to win the fourth set 25-22, only to see the Falcons win the final set 15-12.

The Chargers ended their season at 20-11.

Throughout the year, Melaina Granquist let the Chargers with 222 kills and 60 total blocks. Lily Metropulos had 306 assists and 61 service aces. Kendy Kessen led with 298 digs.
