Constance L. Sommer

Constance (“Grama” Connie) Lucille Sommer, 92, of the Town of Belle Plaine, passed away Oct. 4, 2025, at her residence.

Many people will remember Connie as a sweet little lady who was constantly at work for the Lord. With a servant’s heart, she made sure that every house of worship she ever called home was clean and well organized, and that it stayed that way. Connie was instrumental in the foundation of the Shawano homeless shelter, SAM25, and spent many of her recent years volunteering there. At the same time, she became a founder and leader for “Fresh Hope,” a mental health group of Hope Community Church.

In her retirement, Connie went on several mission trips to underprivileged countries, including Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, the Philippine Islands, and Zambia, where she fully funded a sanitation project of building a lavatory facility for the village. However, she felt her true calling on this earth was working with the children of the orphanages.

Connie was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Omaha, Nebraska, and married her high school sweetheart, Har, on June 21, 1952, in Appleton. At the age of 92, she was called home into the arms of Jesus, on Oct. 4, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Susie Beusch; husband, Harland Sommer; daughter, Linda Sommer; and siblings, Joyce and Roy Deering and Jerry Beusch.

She is survived by her children, Cyndy (Dave) Duncan, Deb (Tom) Passehl, Greg (Mary) Sommer, Dan (Becci) Sommer; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Shirley Beusch.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, at Hope Community Church, Shawano, with the Rev. Richie Ford officiating. Inurnment will take place at Appleton Highland Memorial Park on a later date.

Visitation will take place on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials in Connie’s name are preferred to be directed to the Fresh Hope mental health group through Hope Community Church, or the Shawano Area Matthew 25 homeless shelter.

The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home and Crematory, Clintonville, is assisting the Sommer family with arrangements.
