3rd grade steps into world of dinosaurs

Learning came to life in an exciting way for third grade students at Sacred Heart Catholic School as they recently participated in a hands-on outdoor science activity called “Run for Your Life.”

As part of their study of dinosaurs and fossils, students compared the length of their running strides to dinosaur tracks to determine whether they could have outrun a dinosaur of similar size. The engaging activity encouraged students to think like scientists, using evidence and observation to draw conclusions about how dinosaurs may have moved millions of years ago.

The students took their learning outside the classroom while exploring how fossilized footprints can provide important clues about dinosaur behavior, speed and movement. By measuring, comparing and analyzing tracks, they gained a deeper understanding of how paleontologists use fossil evidence to learn about prehistoric life.
