Oat planting 4% complete, notes USDA report

Wisconsin had 2.4 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending April 12, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Manure and fertilizer were applied as conditions allowed, but field work was limited by precipitation and muddy field conditions.

Topsoil moisture condition rated 0% very short, 3% short, 55% adequate and 42% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 1% very short, 4% short, 69% adequate and 26% surplus.

Corn planting was 1% complete. Oat planting was 4% complete compared with 2% last week. Spring tillage was 7% complete compared with 3% last week.

Pasture and range condition was 38% good to excellent, up three percentage points from last week.

Winter wheat condition was 48% good to excellent, down three percentage points from last week.
