Chuck Seidel, a science teacher at Washington Middle School in Oconto Falls, received the Educator of Excellence Award presented by the Nicolet Oconto Retired Teachers’ Association. He was chosen by the teachers in the Oconto Falls School District.
Seidel graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
After a long-term substitute teaching assignment at Abrams Elementary, he was offered a fifth-grade position at Washington School in Oconto Falls. He taught fifth grade for 16 years and was the lead teacher before switching to sixth-grade science 17 years ago.
He, Don Voermans and Art Paulson were some of the first teachers in the state trained in the Madeline Hunter method of teacher instruction. Seidel served on many committees, including chairing the district’s School Evaluation Consortium Committee. He presented at the Wisconsin Association for Middle Level Education Conference with his sixth-grade team of teachers.
Seidel coached several sports, primarily football and baseball, at many levels over the past 30 years for the school and community.
He was a district representative for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and coached in the Shrine Bowl.
He was a longtime negotiator, chief negotiator and president of the Oconto Falls Education Association.
He is a broadcaster for Panther softball, baseball and Oconto Falls Legion baseball games on WOCO radio and is the public address announcer at Oconto Falls High School sporting events.
He is married to Kristin, a first-grade teacher at Oconto Falls Elementary School. They have three sons, Ryan, married to Rebecca Usiak, Alexander and Gregory, and one grandson, Jack.
