Wilhelmina M. Wagner, 95, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 10, 2013, at Evergreen Care Center in Shawano, where she had been a resident for the past four years.
Wilhelmina was born Jan. 26, 1918, in the town of Poy Sippi, Waushara County, a daughter of the late Ernst and Bertha (Mielke) Buhrow.
She attended country schools, and following graduation from high school, she enrolled in the North Central Bible College in Minneapolis. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Bible/religious studies, graduating in 1940.
On Dec. 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Floyd Wagner in Minneapolis. Following their marriage the couple moved to the Antigo area, where they lived until 1945, when they moved to Shawano. While living in Shawano, Wilhelmina was employed at Dehn’s, the L&L Ranch and later at Maple Lane Health Care Center, retiring in 1978. Her husband Floyd, preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1975.
Wilhelmina was a member of the River Valley Church in Shawano where she had been extremely active. She taught Sunday school and played the piano, organ and accordion. She was also a very active volunteer at all of the Shawano area nursing homes. She volunteered her time and talents by holding Sunday services for the residents and always was willing to share her musical talents. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and playing the organ.
Wilhelmina is survived by her loving children, Sandra (Thomas) Koeshall, of Maryville, Tenn., Karen (Larry) Strauss, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., William (Faye) Wagner, of Gillett, Robert (Georgia) Wagner, of New Holstein, and Daniel Wagner, of Shawano. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Wilhelmina is further survived by her brother, Clifford (Shirley) Buhrow, of Winter Park, Fla.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers and six sisters and a great-grandson.
Funeral services for Wilhelmina Wagner will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Dan Taylor will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service after 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family has requested memorials to the River Valley Church in Shawano for any needs they may have pertaining to music in the name of Wilhelmina Wagner.
