Water has been a problem this year

Four weeks ago, I wrote about how excited I was for the month of February to arrive. Other than a couple wonderful days, I now see the error of my thoughts. February has been as bad as January, so now it is time to look to March. I am not expecting great things for that month, because March is known for not being predictable. Sounds like it will come in like the traditional lion as far as cold is concerned, however that might mean it will go out like a lamb. One can only hope so at least. March is the month of my birth, and I often think it suits my personality. This has certainly been a winter to remember: cold, snow, more cold, and then the insult of freezing rain last week. At this point, my driveway is in sad condition, and I am scared to go to the mailbox. I didn’t ever learn how to ice skate, and I think I am past that age at this point in my life. Ice that is here one day and melted the next can be handled, but with the latest polar vortex, there is little hope for melting, at least in the next week or two. All of this cold has led Tigerton to have a run-water order, so I have had a trickle running from one tap for the past two months. However, a week ago some of the houses nearby were froze up, and I was told to let my water run as fast as the drain would take. This goes against the grain of my being. All my life I have heard, “Turn off the lights, turn off the water, close the door.” What’s more, the years farmer husband and I were farming, it was often my job to fill the stock tank. I was good at turning the water on, however at times I forgot to turn it back off again. The result was a lake of water surrounding that water tank and a husband who sadly shook his head in dismay. Now, as I hear water running in my house, I want to turn it off. I forget the reason for it at times, hear that water is running, and remember the flooded stock tank. I don’t like those memories, other than the fact at least those were hot summer days. All of this leads me to think that there has been a problem with water this year. Either it comes down as snow, and has to be plowed, or it comes down as rain/sleet, and has to be sanded or skated upon. One more or is that it is freezing up the water pipes under the streets, so residents get a run-water order. I guess it all could be worse, at least that is what I keep telling myself. Soon daylight saving time begins. Ash Wednesday is March 5, and spring arrives March 20. One would think, that after a colder than normal winter, spring would arrive on time, and be warmer than normal. Am I expecting too much? Isaiah 40:31 says: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”
