The Council of Catholic Women of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at the church, 1050 Main St.
The bazaar includes Christmas ornaments and decorations, baked goods, candy, handcrafted gifts, crochet items, children’s games and raffles. Coffee and dessert are served at 9 a.m., followed by lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Here is a glance at the CWW members behind the bazaar.

Q What do you do to help at the bazaar and why do you volunteer?
A Nancy Zornes: “I work in the kitchen. I make the chicken soup and the beans and the barbecue. We also have a candy corner. I make like five batches of fudge. Usually people bring fudge or candy. I enjoy it. I can get together with the ladies and it’s a way to make money for the church.
Zornes was born and raised in Gresham. She worked as a secretary in Chicago for 30 years before returning to Gresham. She retired 13 years ago and has been a member of the CCW for four years.
Judy Westphal: “I usually take care of the candy area. I make sea foam. My husband and I make it together and we make it for the bazaar. We make it the old-fashioned way like my mother used to make it. I volunteer because I think it’s a good cause. We donate toward the church. It’s one way of helping out.”
Westphal graduated from Gresham High School and then worked in Wausau for 14 years before returning to Gresham. She works at Edward Jones in Shawano. Her husband of 33 years, Ken, works at Hattiesburg Paper Company in Green Bay. They have four children and two grandchildren. She has been a member of the CCW for 15 years.
Joan King: “I work in the kitchen. I’ll be helping cook. We come a day early to start cooking. I work with Joyce Verstoppen dishing it up. I’m the vice president of the CCW. I feel like I should do it. We do have fun and the ladies are real nice.”
King grew up in Milwaukee. She moved to Gresham with her husband, Warren, who is deceased, because they wanted to get a little farm. King worked on vegetable farms and in restaurants. She has three children and three grandchildren. She has been a member of CCW for 15 years.
Joy Herzfeld: “I think I’ve been helping with the bazaar 15 years. I’m following my mother. I help with selling raffle tickets. My area is more in the craft area that day. I help with the prizes and if people have questions. I used to make crafts, but now I bake more. I had been making cinnamon rolls and caramel rolls. I’m debating over rolls and bars. Usually I’m here Thursday and Friday. I like working with the ladies and I like to help out the church.”
Herzfeld was born and raised in Gresham. She works at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay in the surgery department. Herzfeld enjoys gardening and reading. She has been a CCW member for 20 years.
Jan Ebert: “Joy and I are co-chairman. I take care of prizes and workers and whatever needs to get done. Buy the groceries and set up Thursday and Friday. I make centerpieces and usually bars and cookies. We get so much good bakery. I enjoy seeing that something is accomplished and visit with people to earn money for church.”
Ebert graduated from Shawano High School. She worked at Badger Breeders, now CRI, for 47 1/2 years before retiring. Ebert lives in Gresham with her husband of 50 years, Ty, who owns Ebert’s Garage. They have three children and three grandchildren. She has been a member of CCW since 1963.
