As a result of the fall campaign for the United Way of Shawano County, 17 community agencies will receive funding totalling $48,000 in 2014.
United Way donations are raised primarily through employee payroll contributions and community donors. The campaign goal was $75,000.
“Though $48,000 may seem like a large sum of money, it is only a little more than half of what the agencies have requested,” said Linda Olson, executive director of the Shawano Area United Way.
In the past year, United Way of Shawano County touched more than 32,000 lives through the funds provided to member agencies.
“There is a good chance you have a relative, friend, co-worker or neighbor who benefits from the services of a United Way partner agency,” Olson said.
The funded agencies benefit the Shawano County area with a focus on education, income and health.
The organizations receiving United Way funds are Birnamwood Community Cupboard, SAFPARC, American Red Cross, Safe Haven, Junior Achievement, nIc Foundation, Wolf River School to Work, Boy Scouts, Navarino Nature Center, Kids Klub, Shawano Literacy Council, Alzheimer’s Association, Red River Riders, Special Olympics, NEW Curative Workshop, Lutheran Counseling and & Family Services, and Shawano Food Center.
