Thoughts of spring hard to resist

Now that we have hit the middle of February, with weather forecasters talking about temperatures in the middle 30s for next week, my thoughts are turning to the time when winter might loosen its hard-fisted grip. I won’t say spring yet, but once we get into the 30s, it might feel a bit like spring. Meanwhile, I have been enjoying the sunny days that have been numerous of late. There is something about sun that makes me feel good all over, even though it may be cold. One thing I have noticed is the different types of tracks that are in my backyard, and even the front yard. One night, I came home from playing cards at the neighbors, and six deer were eating my shrubs by my front porch. Over the course of the winter weeks, I have been tossing old bread into the backyard. One day, I even tossed some raw eggs that I thought had been in the refrigerator a little too long for me to eat. Sometimes, it is vegetable peelings, but, if I think a hungry animal might eat it, I toss it out. At this point, the snow is so deep that whatever is tossed, immediately falls down into the snow, and other than noticing crows eating the bread, I have no idea if anything else might be eaten or not. I have a twinge of fear now and then that there will be old slices of bread, vegetable peelings and whole raw eggs sitting in my backyard while I am doing spring cleanup. Oh well, I guess I will deal with that when spring actually does arrive. Getting back to those animal tracks, I sometimes wonder what makes them. Other than spending 24 hours a day looking out of my windows, I have no idea what and who is out there. I recognize deer hoof prints, and rabbit, and can tell bird tracks, but am lost on pretty much everything else. Now and then a neighborhood dog might stop by, but it usually leaves a different type of mark on the snow bank. For the most part, these past couple of months have moved at a fast pace. I am trying to get two or three days a week at Total Fitness in Shawano. I not only enjoy the workouts, I also enjoy seeing the people there. It is amazing how many senior citizens, like myself, are doing their best to stay healthy and active. I know there are other exercise places and other senior citizens who are also working out, and I think that is great. There are times when my body says, no way, like this morning, when I woke up early with cramps in both legs, from the big toe to the knee. Today, I decided to stay home and ride the exercise bike, thinking it might put less stress on my feet and legs. While at home, I also made headway on the next wedding quilt I am making and made a serious attempt on putting together quilt backs for the mission quilts that the ladies at church are making. This month I have also been checking on movies on Turner Classic Movies. They are showing award-nominated and winning movies from the past. I do enjoy movies, especially older ones.
