Krueger manages pin in Panthers’ loss
The Oconto Falls High School wrestling team fell 38-21 at Hortonville on Thursday.
Dewey Krueger recorded the Panthers’ only pin, over Nathan Lichtfuss in 1:12 at 152 pounds.
Other OFHS recording wins were Nate Trepanier (138) 6-1 over Cam Luker; Brett Ash (145) 6-2 over Cam Martzahl; Mac Winkler (195) 4-3 over Mike Hill; and Austin Stanek (113) by forfeit.
Hortonville recorded three pins, two major decisions and four decisions.

Slow start dooms Gillett at STAA
Gillett fell behind 17-9 in the first period and never recovered in a 52-42 boys basketball loss Thursday to St. Thomas Aquinas Academy in Marinette.
The Tigers trailed 26-15 at halftime before outscoring STAA 27-26 in the second half.
Dylan Roberts scored 20 and Dan Torres 12 for Gillett (2-5, 2-3 Marinette & Oconto Conference).
Kiefer Powers was the only player in double figures for STAA (5-1, 3-1 M&O), but seven players scored.

Suring can’t topple undefeated Peshtigo
Suring managed to score double digits in only one quarter Thursday in a 45-33 loss to undefeated Peshtigo High School in Marinette & Oconto Conference boys basketball action in Suring.
Suring outscored Peshtigo 12-9 in the first quarter but was blitzed 19-5 in the second period and could not make up the difference in the second half.
Dillon Kempen led Suring (3-4, 1-4 M&O) with 10 points.
Zack Neumann led Peshtigo (6-0, 4-0 M&O) with 14 points.

Lena boys no match for Crivitz
Crivitz High School stayed within a game of the Marinette & Oconto Conference boys basketball leaders Friday with a 66-25 beatdown of Lena at Crivitz.
Crivitz’s defense limited Lena (1-5, 0-4 M&O) to no more than eight points in any quarter. Hunter Borchert scored 11 of Lena’s 25 points.
Micah Sessler and Colton Lange each had 12 for Crivitz (6-1, 4-1 M&O), which continues to chase undefeated M&O leaders Peshtigo and Wausaukee.

Gillett girls record second M&O win
Gillett built an early lead and then withstood a fourth-quarter surge from Niagara in a 39-31 girls basketball victory Friday at home.
Gillett (2-3, 2-1 M&O) outscored Niagara (2-5, 2-2 M&O) 9-4, 11-7 and 12-7 in the first three quarters, respectively, before Niagara mounted a comeback with a 13-7 edge in the final period.
Marissa Sherman led Gillett with 10 points.
Brooklyn Wolosyn led Niagara with 16 points.

Duo pace Lena past St. Thomas Aquinas
Melissa Bushmaker scored 22 points and Kayla VanLanen 15 as Lena stayed within a game of the Marinette & Oconto Conference lead Friday with a 40-27 win over St. Thomas Aquinas Academy in Marinette.
Lena (3-1, 3-1 M&O) led 3-2 in the first quarter, and while STAA’s offense never got rolling, Lena’s did, with eight, 17 and 12 points in the next three quarters, respectively.
Taylor Wilson scored 17 points to lead STAA (1-5, 0-4 M&O).
Peshtigo (5-0, 4-0 M&O) remains atop the conference standings.

OFHS boys game with L-C postponed
The Oconto Falls High School (1-5, 1-2 Bay Conference) boys basketball game with Luxemburg-Casco (2-3, 1-3 Bay) on Friday was postponed because of slippery roads. The make-up date has not yet been determined.
