This is the third year that Gary Dodge Jr. will perform in Keshena to earn money for Toys for Tots in Menominee County.
“I want to help give back to kids and the community,” he said.
On Nov. 22, Dodge, who specializes in rap and hip-hop music, and two other artists will perform at Litoff Hall, also known as the Student Commons, at College of Menominee Nation in Keshena.
The free show, which begins at 7 p.m., is to the public.
There event also includes chili, fry bread, a rice dish and cupcakes, as well as door prizes. To earn money for the Toys for Tots, there will be a 50/50 raffle, and donations will be accepted. Attendees can also bring a new toy, a coat for kids or an item for the food pantry.
“It’ll be fun,” said Dodge, who is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. “Bring family and friends.”
Since the mother/son team started the shows, they have raised $1,000 for Toys for Tots.
“I know there’s a big need in the community,” Colleen Dodge said. “He does the show and I do the background work.”
Gary Dodge will be joined by R&B and hip-hop artist CDS and rapper Knowledge.
“What they are doing helps the Toys for Tots program and also provides a good role model for the kids,” said Darwin Dick, youth development and outreach director in Menominee County.
Dick said Toys for Tots spends about $10,000 every year serving 500 to 700 families. Along with the money from the Dodge family show, they hold several fundraisers, such as a penny collection, which raises around $4,000.
“Every little bit helps,” Dick said.
If there are any leftover toys, they are donated to churches or other nonprofit programs.
