Garth Ashley

Garth Ashley, 92, a resident at Kindred Hearts Assisted Living in Shawano, passed away on Monday evening, Nov. 25, 2013. Garth was born on Oct. 27, 1921, in Green Bay to Ed and Margaret (Touchette) Ashley. He attended high school in Shawano, where he graduated in 1941. After graduation, Garth served his country for four years in the Army during World War II. On April 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Jeannette Huntington at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. After service, Garth worked at Hotz Mfg. in Shawano, and then for the Shawano School District until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Shawano. Garth is survived by his wife, Jeannette; three daughters, Amy (James) Reiter and Jill Ashley, both of Shawano, and Kim (Phil) Jurgenson, of Sneads Ferry, N.C. He is further survived by eight grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. Garth was preceded in death by five brothers, Frenchie, Howard, Kenneth, Bobby and Keith; one sister, Marjorie; and one son, Gary Ashley. A funeral Mass for Garth Ashley will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. The Rev. Luke Ferris will be the celebrant. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Shawano American Legion Post 117 will perform military honors at the church following Mass. Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass.
