MaryAnn L. Wendt, 78, of Kodak, Tenn., formerly of Tigerton, went to be with her Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at her home after a lingering illness.
My loving wife, the former MaryAnn Lorraine Schroeder, was born on Oct. 20, 1935, in the township of Grant, Shawano County, to the late Alfred L. and Anna A. (Beyersdorf) Schroeder. She attended Valley View Grade School through grade 8, and played clarinet in the marching band for Tigerton High School, from which she graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1953. After graduation, MaryAnn became employed with Employers Mutual of Wausau until she was wed to Allen C. Wendt, of Tigerton, on Aug. 27, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline. The couple farmed for several years near Tigerton with MaryAnn employed at the First National Bank, Tigerton, until she left to be a wonderful, loving mother and homemaker. In 1963, they moved to Wittenberg. She was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed having get-togethers. She took pride in her housekeeping skills, and kept large, beautiful flower beds, a large vegetable garden and a berry patch. Harvest season kept her very busy canning. She was never too busy to help her widowed mother.
As a Redeemer Lutheran Church-Wittenberg member, she was active in Ladies Aid, where her talent for crafts was apparent, taught Vacation Bible School and held several offices until she and her family moved to Bonduel. She also enjoyed volleyball with a ladies group. The family moved to Orlando, Fla., in 1985. While there, she was employed at a prestigious golf course and later a well-known restaurant at the Orlando International Airport. After moving to East Tennessee, MaryAnn continued her career in food service until retirement in 2002. After retiring, MaryAnn enjoyed her daily devotionals, church activities, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing solitaire or Sheepshead, dancing to polka music in her younger days, continuing her flowerbed and gardening interests, playing piano and concertina, and spending time with family and friends. Her personality was endearing to all. She always had a smile and a kind heart for everyone.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Allen and daughter, Kathy, both of Kodak, Tenn.; brother, Raymond (Melda) Schroeder, Oshkosh; nephews, Randal (Cheryl) Schroeder, Leavenworth, Kan., Dale Schroeder, Oshkosh, Joey (Annie) Schroeder, Oconomowoc; nieces, Sherry (Steve) Schroeder-Atkinson, LaValle, Debbie (Douglas) Schroeder-Potratz, Oshkosh, Amy (Tim) Schroeder-Thorison, Janet (Jim) Schroeder-Temmer, Cedarburg; close cousins, Gordon “Butch” (Agnes) Schlender, Wittenberg, Roselyn (Jim) Schlender-Schultz, Appleton, Jenny Schlender-Buck, Oshkosh, Viola Fritz-Britzke, Shawano; close friends, Laverne Davis, Kodak, Tenn., Christie and David Elder, Kodak, Tenn., Judy Erickson, Wittenberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Rolland and Evelyn (Michaelis) Schroeder; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline. The Rev. Craig Nehring will officiate, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
