Marion Haugen Ellis, 89, of Shawano, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013. Born May 1, 1924, in Fillmore County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Ole and Susie (Hillestad) Haugen.
On August 19, 1949, in North Prairie, Minn., Marion was united in marriage to Rudy Ellis, who preceded her in death on May 4, 2011. In 1943, after acing her mechanical aptitude test, she hitchhiked from Minnesota to California and worked as a welder in the Kaiser Shipyards. She went on to enlist in the U.S. Army to serve her country during World War II. Marion was a graduate of the Winona State Teacher’s College and moved to Shawano with her husband and children in 1957. She shared the love of sports with her husband and was an avid supporter of high school athletics. She judged gymnastics and enjoyed bowling. Marion was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano, as well as a member of the Fillmore Historic Center and an associate member of the Shawano County Area Retired Educators Association.
Marion is survived by her children, Mark (Monica) Ellis, of Rochester Hills, Mich., Dr. Shari (Dr. Alan Kroll) Ellis, of Gainesville, Fla., and Krista (Jim) Clumpner, of Marquette, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Anna (Jason Allen) Ellis, of Pleasant Ridge, Mich., Andrew Ellis, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Aaron Ellis, of Denver, Colo., Dr. Jessica Kroll, of Tampa, Fla., Rebecca Kroll, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Ellisa and Joseph Clumpner of Marquette, Mich. She is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Olive Haugen and Ruth Knutson, both of Minnesota, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Arthur and her twin, Milo; a half-brother, Emer; and a half-sister, Gladys Moger.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Gisele Berninghaus officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery in Harmony, Minn., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano and the Shawano Athletic Booster Club.
