Once again the old Village Hall in Tigerton has been turned into a Christmas fairyland. Businesses, church groups and families have festooned Christmas trees with decorations that defy the imagination.
For instance, one tree is a snowman, as it is white, with branches for arms, a snowman head, and three coal Christmas balls as buttons.
The local TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) group has a “flipping for TOPS tree,” complete with a parrot, flip-flops, umbrellas and leis. Oh, did I mention, that it is setting in a child size pool, with sand? I think all that is missing is some sunglasses.
I didn’t get a chance to look at all of the trees the day I was there; it will take some time to see the festive decorations both downstairs and upstairs. I definitely need to stop back and have a better, longer look.
It amazes me that a small village like Tigerton can come up with so many different tree themes year after year. At this point I don’t know the hours they are open, but usually on weekends, and most weekday mornings up until Christmas. To find out for sure, call Tigerton Main Street, 715-535-2110.
Just that peek in the door gave me the urge to get to work on my own Christmas decorations. Now that Thanksgiving is past and December is about to begin, it is time to take action. All I need is a day where the temperature isn’t on the freezing side, or at least no cold wind blowing.
Where will I put the deer this year? I have been asking myself that question. I am seriously considering putting lights on my three evergreen trees that are on the west side of the yard. True, they are not large and stately, but they are finally sturdy enough not to bend over under the weight. However, I usually put the deer near them, but I suppose they would all work together.
The biggest challenge each year is to get all the things plugged in and working. Another challenge this year is to get some posts driven into the frozen earth. Since I am writing this on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, by the time you read this, I might actually be putting up my outdoor decorations, in fact.
Will I freeze my fingers and toes? Will the light sets all work? Will I throw up my hands in disgust?
No, now that the decorating is close, I am, in fact, getting anxious to do the job. Sure my body gets tired, and I am sure to get a strain and pain. Not everything will go as planned, it never does. However, the end result is pleasing for me to look at. It will help the next month go past faster.
I know that it will be a lot more fun than last weekend, when I defrosted my freezer.
