We have just completed four performances of the annual Mielke Arts Center Christmas show, an admission-free gift to area communities.
As always, many talented people turned out to participate. Cast members ranged in age from 18 months to 89 years. Audiences were responsive and generous in donating to local animal shelters. Everyone had a great time rehearsing and performing.
We were especially impressed by the commitment of parents and encouragement they gave their children. Parents and grandparents pitched in with every job that needed to be done from cleaning to setting up the seating. Not only did they have to build the set for this show but they also had to take down the set from the previous show, doubling the work. Most had not done this type of work before, but they rose to the occasion.
Though things got hectic backstage times, older children helped the younger ones, and the moms and dads worked wonders getting costumes changes and children on stage at the proper time. At no time did we hear a cross word or witness any unpleasantness. Theater veterans worked right along with the newcomers, many of whom were in our Children’s Theatre Workshop last summer, adding to the quality of the show.
We would like to commend and thank the following families: Rose, Klemp, VanSraten, Fregien, Easley, Malotky, Bray and Stuewer. Additional support came from our regular backstage stand-bys, Gregg and Nancy Powless and the Madsen family.
Putting on a show like this has been a privilege and pleasure for the past four years.
