Bears, Chargers tied atop CWC

The Bonduel High School girls basketball team pulled even with Wittenberg-Birnamwood in the Central Wisconsin Conference-8 title race Saturday with a key victory over Amherst. The Bears (17-4, 11-2 CWC-8) beat Amherst (16-4, 9-3 CWC-8) 60-44 in Bonduel. After giving up 12 points to Amherst’s Jamiee Pitt in the first half, Bonduel shut her down in the second half, holding her to just two points. Bonduel, meanwhile, was led by Deanna Zernicke, who scored 17 points and hit four 3s in the game. Alexa Reinke chipped in 14, and Jennifer Dowden scored 10. Dowden also had eight rebounds, four blocks and four assists. Bonduel will close out league play with a road game against Iola-Scandinavia (11-10, 6-7 CWC-8) on Thursday. Wittenberg-Birnamwood (16-4, 11-2 CWC-8) will also finish its conference schedule Thursday against Stevens Point Pacelli (1-19, 1-12 CWC-8).
