Joanne Patricia Meisner, 80, of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Born on July 22, 1933, in Mattoon, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Bernarde) Butts.
After graduating from high school, Joanne furthered her education with a degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On June 30, 1956, she was united in marriage to Roger J. Meisner in Tigerton. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2000. Joanne was a volunteer at the Sacred Heart Catholic School library for 40 years and was involved with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in her younger years. She was also a certified master gardener and avidly tended the flowers at the Navarino Nature Center and the Mielke Theatre. Joanne was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano, where she taught CCD for many years. She had also been a member of the Shawano County Homemakers in the 1970s and ’80s. In her free time, she loved being outdoors, fishing and tending to her many gardens.
Joanne is survived by her three sons, Glenn (Debra), of Fort Wayne, Ind., Scott (Linda), of Shawano, and Fred (Lisa), of Shawano; seven grandchildren, Andrew, David, Michael and Paul Meisner, all of Shawano, Dayna (Peter) Hoertsch, of Menasha, Roni (Payton) Taylor, of Wausau, and Jeff (Jessica) Stamets, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and six great-grandchildren, Peter and Anthoni Hoertsch, Kayla, Lucas and Jacob Stamets, and Emma Taylor.
Joanne is further survived by her father, Eldor (Patricia) Erdmann, of Shawano; and two sisters, Sonja Stewart, of Tigerton, and Sandra Jones, of Shawano.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her mother, Gertrude Erdmann; her father, Charles Butts; and a brother, Charles Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A parish wake service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
