Rubin “Butch” Zingler, 68, Rosemont, Minn., passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014, surrounded by his son Travis, daughter-in-law Jennifer (Eldred) and grandchildren Jocelyn and Tristan. He was born on March 19, 1945, in Shawano, son of Rubin and Velda (Kallies) Zingler.
Rubin graduated from Neenah High School, the Class of 1963. He then enlisted in the United States Army on June 28, 1968, where he served as a cook, stationed in Germany. Rubin was honorably discharged with a National Defense Service Medal and Sharp Shooter M-14 on June 19, 1970. After being discharged, he was employed by Elm Tree Bakery in Appleton as a baker. He then moved to Minnesota in 1974 where he attended Dunwoody College for Automotive Service Technology. He started working at Steak & Ale restaurant in Bloomington, Minn., as a cook then in October 1974 he became employed at John Deere Warehouse in Bloomington, Minn., where he retired after 30 years of service. Rubin held some small jobs after retirement but none of those jobs compared to his time working for Care Transportation for the last two years. He took pride in providing transportation to veterans who needed to be seen at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.. He was honored to help and serve the veterans that needed his assistance. He enjoyed this job to its fullest.
Rubin loved tinkering with old cars, fishing and spending time with his family. His rough exterior was intimidating, but once he started chatting you couldn’t deny that he had a heart of gold. Rubin was never at a loss for words; he could strike up a conversation and share stories with anyone. He was a humble man who enjoyed coming home to his dogs and sharing his love of cooking whenever possible. He was an amazing man, with many wonderful stories and qualities.
Rubin is survived by his son, Travis (Jennifer) Zingler; grandchildren, Jocelyn and Tristan Zingler; siblings, Karen (Jack) Cronce, John and Wayne Zingler; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, favorite uncle, Roland Zingler, and other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. March 14, 2014, Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial St., Neenah, with the Rev. Paul Holte officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. to the time of the service.
A memorial fund has been established in Rubin’s name.
Rubin, you are loved by many and will be greatly missed.
